New homes ready for tenants, tender awarded for 6 more
Four new homes in Tennant Creek are ready for tenants, and a construction tender has been awarded for a further six. The one-bedroom units at 86 Peko Road will augment the public housing stock in Tennant Creek.
Heritage village embraced
The people of Moulamein and district have embraced their Moulamein Heritage Village (MHV). Taking just over four years to complete, we reconstructed our first historic building, Jeraly wool shed, in 2020 … just completed the cultural infrastructure around the village … includes a large sealed car park with designated disabled car parking spaces and magnificent wide concrete pathways linking the car park to all the buildings on site.
REA Horse Trials surpass expectations as Narrandera’s top course gains recognition
Narrandera's reputation as a venue for friendly and well-organised Horse Trials continues to grow. The 49th year of horse trials in the Riverina will see an increased number of entries surpassing the 2023 competition when riders and their horses gather at the Narrandera Rodeo and Pony Club grounds next month.
Koondrook tourism recognised
Koondrook has taken out bronze in the 2024 Victoria Tourism Industry Council Top Tourism Town Awards. Our idyllic Murray locality was one of nine towns recognised across three categories in the awards; Koondrook competing for the Top Tiny Town award against five finalists, with Timboon taking out the win.

Treeless housing estates impact liveability
It would seem that the first step in developing a new housing estate is to bulldoze the land to a point where no trees are left standing, but is this good planning or a danger to the health of future inhabitants? Images of new housing estates in the local area generally present a frightening view of houses on small postcard sized blocks of land without a tree in sight or the room to grow one.

Overnight it was announced that Regional Express Holdings and a number of its subsidiaries have entered voluntary administration. Samuel Freeman, Justin Walsh and Adam Nikitins of Ernst & Young Australia (EY Australia) have been appointed Joint and Several Voluntary Administrators by the Rex Group’s respective Boards of Directors.
25 years of Kaniva and District Progress Association
Kaniva Puppet Shop is one of the businesses featured in a series of new short branded films, as part of the “Eat, Stay, Play” campaign, created by Chris Hilder of Cholly Media in collaboration with Helen Hobbs from the Kaniva and District Progress Association. One of the films featured Julie Finch, who shares her journey to Kaniva and the creation of her European-style Puppet Shop.
Housing limit set – draft Local Housing Strategy amended
Clarence Valley Council’s Draft Local Housing Strategy has been amended to limit the construction height of new dwellings in Yamba and Iluka after Council received 873 public submissions and a petition containing 1086 signatures against the previous draft. When Clarence Valley Council CVC placed its draft Local Housing Strategy (LHS), and draft Affordable Housing Policy (AHP) on public exhibition … they also received 7 NSW Government agency submissions, and one from a non-government organisation.

Lawrence cane truck tragedy
Investigations are continuing following the tragic passing of a 67-year-old man in the Clarence Valley last week. Shortly after 10am on Thursday, July 25, emergency services were called to the riverside village of Lawrence, around 25km north of Grafton, following reports a semi-trailer transporting sugarcane was submerged in the Clarence River.
Goolgowi chook farm goes off-grid in Australian first
Australia’s largest off-grid poultry farm has commenced operations near Goolgowi. Operated by Agright, a commercial poultry grower in Australia and New Zealand, the 40 shed operation ‘Meriki’ claims to be saving more than 1690 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.

With the introduction of several new attractions including a competitive chainsaw competition and a bullock team, the 2024 Glenreagh Timber Festival attracted more than 6500 attendees to the Glenreagh Recreational Grounds ... families of all ages enjoyed themselves as they celebrated the rich heritage of the rural village.
Kaniva lights up with new film campaign
It was lights, camera, action in Kaniva as filmmaker Chris Hilder of Cholly Media visited Kaniva to produce short film clips for the Kaniva and District Progress Association (KDPA). With the closure of Out and About tourism magazine, KDPA sought fresh ways to highlight Kaniva’s attractions and tourism operators. Collaborating with KDPA’s Helen Hobbs, Chris came up with an innovative concept to expand their "Eat, Stay, Play" campaign.
Work begins to add Jabiluka site to Kakadu National Park: Plibersek, King
The Albanese Labor Government has advised the Northern Territory Government that the Jabiluka Mineral Lease should not be renewed, allowing the site to be added to Kakadu National Park. The Commonwealth advice has enabled the Northern Territory Government to decline to extend the lease of the Jabiluka uranium project.
RACV road safety survey highlights danger on Victoria’s regional roads
Today RACV has released the results of its My Country Road survey, with more than 7,000 Victorians providing important data on the safety of regional roads across the state. Potholes and poor road condition were the top issues identified, with an overwhelming 64 per cent of participants identifying these as the primary safety issue; up from 46 per cent in 2021.
