Tennant Minerals reports bonanza drilling results

Tennant Minerals has announced its latest drilling results at the Bluebird Copper-Gold Prospect near Tennant Creek revealed a discovery of a rich new gold shoot with bonanza grades. The company says the results highlight Bluebird’s potential to rival other high-grade copper and gold deposits including Peko and Nobles Nob, located just 20 kilometres west of Bluebird.

Glencore is preparing to revive the Mica Creek Power Station after Stanwell handed back the keys to the dormant facility. North West Weekly can reveal the state government body struck a deal with the mining giant last month. However, Stanwell says it has simply returned a Mount Isa Mines asset back to Glencore.

East Weipa nearly ready to be returned to owners

Rio Tinto Weipa has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with four Traditional Owner groups which details an agreed consultation process around closure planning for the East Weipa bauxite mine. The MoU was jointly developed over a period of seven months between Traditional Owners and Rio Tinto and lays a path regarding the eventual return of their lands after mining at East Weipa stops.

Overall, the results were encouraging and very useful in defining the mineralised trends within Maldon ... Opposition groundswell – mining application

Patricia Gill. Denmark Environment Centre convenor Bart Lebbing is spearheading a call to ban mining in the Denmark shire. The move comes with a pending exploration licence by the private company, United Funds Pty Ltd, and widespread community opposition to any mine in the shire ... Mr Lebbing said the exploration licence had come amid a boom in demand for metals essential for renewable power generation.

Huge increase in gold production

Kaiser Reef Limited (ASX: KAU) saw a further increase in gold production of 45% over the previous quarter that delivered a positive cash flow of $1.8M. This major turning point in Kaiser’s A1 mine (located 300km east of Maldon) has ratified the significant effort made by the team to unlock the potential in this high-grade gold mine.

Public meetings called to address mining threat

Two public meetings will be held on April 12 and April 19 to discuss the implications of a mining exploration licence application ... Bart Lebbing said the Denmark shire relied on primary production, nature-based tourism, education, art and craft enterprises, viticulture and the service industry. “Mineral exploration and mining do not value-add to these sectors, but compromise their viability,” he said.

Diatreme rapt with new discovery

Mark Knowles. Emerging silica sands explorer Diatreme Resources believes it has struck gold near Cooktown after announcing significant growth to its project’s resources. Last week, the ASX-listed company said its Si2 North Project resource had recorded a significant increase of around 134 per cent to 124 million tonnes (Mt).
