Lockyer Valley Regional Council, Media Release, 11 May 2026
The Gatton Library will host this year’s 26th National Simultaneous Storytime – and you’re invited to come along.
National Simultaneous Storytime will once again see a picture book – written and illustrated by an Australian author – read simultaneously in libraries, schools, homes, children’s facilities and early childhood education and care services all over the country.
The event is an annual campaign by the Australian Library and Information Association that encourages young children to read and enjoy books.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Libraries and Galleries Portfolio Councillor Julie Reck said National Simultaneous Storytime would be held at the Gatton Library on Wednesday 27 May at 10am.
“Events like National Simultaneous Storytime play such an important role in children’s development and it’s such a simple yet meaningful gesture to have everyone read the same book at the same time.
“Literacy plays such an important role in life and learning and coming together as a community is an even better way to make this a more special and enjoyable activity.
“Our libraries are essential places in the community for not only fostering a love of reading but also providing an early appreciation for the value of literacy of all kinds.
“This annual event forms part of our First 5 Forever program which puts a spotlight on the importance of parents and caregivers talking, reading, singing and playing with their child every day, while also placing a focus on the incredibly beneficial story time activities in our libraries,” Cr Reck said.
National Simultaneous Storytime will be held at the Gatton Library on Wednesday 27 May at 10am.
