Kaniva’s Community Hub came alive for the annual Christmas Carols last Friday, welcoming young families and people of all ages. Despite the inclement weather, the event saw a full house, preceded by Santa photos, face painting and a meet and greet with Santa on the oval.
The evening was MC’d by Louise Hobbs and Kim Hawker. “From Serviceton, Telopea Downs, Lawloit to Lemon Springs we represent Kaniva – our little town with such a big heart; We have a wonderful young parent community coming forward recharging our beautiful local groups, they’re running clubs and events such as these with terrific style.” said Kim.
The event was organised by the community for the community with performances by Kaniva Kinder and Kaniva College students. A big thank you to the Serviceton Church band for stepping in at the last minute. The band, featuring parents, grandparents, and aunties of local kinder and school children, led the crowd in the carols for the evening.
Attendees were reminded of the essence of Christmas— kindness, fairness, and inclusion. “You don’t have to be a churchgoer to celebrate the joy of Christmas,” Kim shared. “It’s about love, giving, and the joy of children, family, and friendship—something country towns are just so good at.”

In the spirit of giving, donations were collected to support local food hampers through the Wishing Tree at the carols, the Empty Christmas Tree Service, and the recent Lions Club dinner.
Community members are still encouraged to donate non-perishable items and Christmas treats (no toys please). Donations close this Friday at 2pm at LINK Neighbourhood House and Thursday at 4pm at the Kaniva Op Shop.
Kaniva’s Christmas Carols once again proved that the heart of Kaniva beats strongest during the festive season, with the Christian and community spirit uniting all.
