White Cliffs artist Jenny Hayes is getting close to the finish of the mural on the long side wall of the White Cliffs Hotel.
Jenny said it took a long while to gather the material for the design, relying on family and local residents memories, old papers and historical documents along with research into the variety of dinosaurs that once inhabited this region. No local memories of these animals or the Eromanga Sea that covered the White Cliffs area 100 million years ago or so.
Starting at the end of the pub wall the mural covers from the times of the Eromanga Sea, through to the arrival of the explorers, discovery of opal and the development of the town.
It takes a while to look at, the greatest attention has been taken to tiny details.
Jenny had some help recently in putting the finishing touches on some of the finer details such as the flock of galahs and the old mining truck’s tyres.
The project was funded through a Central Darling Shire Council initiative.
