It was fantastic to see the Nhill Tigers win their third win in a row on Saturday when they beat their rival neighbour Dimboola by 102 points.
Coach Jake McQueen said, “ Very happy with how everyone played on the weekend, we played a great team game. Everyone is starting to understand their role and the style we want to play. Hopefully we can keep improving and building on the team’s success.”
Assistant Coach David Flood said, “The main thing is the guys are getting some confidence and belief in themselves. The boys are playing as a good team and that’s the most important thing; we also have some great recruits and playing as many local lads as we can, which is good for the community and interest in the game.”
“Our recruits gel well with our players and coaches, which is a credit to our recruiting team. They are good lads that want to play for the right reasons and gel well with the team which is important in any team sport.” David said.
Dan Batson is a great asset returning for the Tigers this year too; he has been terrific all year on and off the field.
Mitch Dahlenburg has been a great Captain over the years and as David Flood said, “He is a great lad, and bit of glue for the guys.”
Both Liam Albrecht and Mitch haven’t played in a final in their football career at the Nhill Tigers. Mitch has played 124 games and only won 15, while Liam has played 187 games and is hoping to make a finals appearance before he clocks up 200.
David commended the coaching panel and Tigers team which are well supported by Mal Coutts in backline and player welfare, Jaye Macumber assistant coach, Bryce Warner forward line; Jeremey Weeks Head trainer and fitness coach. Peter Hedt and Shane Grover do a good job managing the rotations as required, and are all working well to support Coach Jake and the team which is the main agenda.
It was a good win for the boys, and after this week’s bye, we welcome Stawell to Nhill which should be a ripping game, so get along and support the boys.
Go Tiges!
