Former Morris Bakery sold
Naracoorte’s former Morris Bakery has been sold to a local buyer.
The value of the sale was not disclosed to The [Naracoorte Community] News because of legal agreements.
Still under contract with conditions to be cleared, the property, including the plant and equipment, was sold through a “privately negotiated deal before auction”.
Good news for food lovers, as the new owner intends to run the business as a “food place”.
Real estate company, Malseeds Real Estate of Mount Gambier, was contracted to look after the sale of the building, while Adelaide-based liquidators, Tarquin Koch, looked after the sale of the plant and equipment.
In an interview with The [Naracoorte Community] News, Jason Malseed of Malseeds Real Estate said he could not disclose the name of the new owner as the deal was not 100 per cent unconditional yet.
“It’s (former Morris Bakery) under contract. It was a private-negotiated deal before the auction.
“So, it won’t go to auction because we have had an offer that was acceptable to both parties—the vendor and purchaser—and everybody is happening in it, and it will be run, once again, as a food place.”
Mr Malseed said the business aims to start operation in a couple of months’ time.
The town’s popular bakery shut its doors on February 5 after losing about $300,000 in alleged theft by a former employee.
Creditors of the former bakery were owed more than $350,000.
SA Police is investigating the alleged theft.
