A section of Wilson Inlet between 107-109 Minsterly Road has been named Hart Cove in honour of the late James (Jim) Hart.
Mr Hart, who died in 2022, lived nearby for many years launching his boat and teaching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to fish.
The former volunteer ambulance driver, founding member and inaugural captain of the Denmark Fire Brigade, was also a volunteer fisheries officer for the Department of Fisheries.
Shire president Kingsley Gibson said that people like Mr Hart enriched the lives of others.
It was important to recognise their valuable efforts.
“Community members like Mr Hart are the ‘hart’ and soul of our town,” Councillor Gibson said.
Namings, such as the cove after Mr Hart, would be a lasting reminder of remarkable contributions and legacies.
They also showed how the community was grateful for everything people such as Mr Hart did.
“They are role models for the future generations,” Cr Gibson said. The Shire has recently received confirmation of approval of the naming from Landgate.
