Australia Day winners celebrated at small council presentation

Recent stories

After the big washout of festivities on Australia Day, Barkly Regional Council rescheduled the awards ceremony for last Friday at the Council Chambers.

A good number of community members turned out to support the winners of the various categories. However, several of the winners were unable to attend due to other commitments, including Citizen of the Year Alba Brockie.

MC duties were handled with enthusiasm by Tennant Creek’s Australia Day Ambassador, Amy James, who took great delight in helping to present the awards to a group of very deserving winners.

Unusually, there was also a Special Mention Award given to Kate Foran for all the tireless work she does for her favourite “golden-hearted” community, which was made all the sweeter by being presented on her birthday, accompanied by multiple cheers of Happy Birthday.

Heartfelt congratulations go out to all nominees and winners, it is your contributions that make Tennant Creek the amazing place it is.

The winners are: Citizen of the Year: Alba Brockie, Citzen Special Mention: Kate Foran, Senior Citizen of the Year: Ross Jakamarra Williams, Young Citizen of the Year: Jamie Jones, Volunteer of the Year: Irena Edwards-Kelly, Sportsperson of the Year: Stanley Waistcoat and Community Event of the Year: Tennant Creek Children’s Christmas Tree.
