Local wins 2023 Yamba Triathlon

The 2023 Yamba Triathlon was held in prefect weather conditions producing excellent racing over the weekend with Yamba local Keanu Staader securing the victory in the highly competitive Men’s Open division.

Staader won in a time of one hour, two minutes and 49 seconds, from Ben Russell in second (1.04.06) and Jake Russell (1.04.55).

In the Women’s Open division, the Sunshine Coast’s Emma McInnes was victorious in a highly competitive time of 1.10.48, which saw her place 15th overall, followed by Sarah Harvey in second (1.42.02).

In the 14-15 yrs male division, Jett Beck won with a time of 1.13.37, followed by Hayden Kelvin (1.16.22) and Angus Ogilvie (1.21.04).

Amelia Atkinson (1.26.10) was victorious in the 14-15 years female division in a close contest with Coco Beck (1.27.53), while Charlotte Strahan (1.43.30) came in third.

Organisers said 60 children entered this years Yamba Triathlon, the biggest field of kids in many years.

The largest number of entrants in the 300-competitor field was from first time competitors and children, delighting organisers.

Despite predicted nasty weather, organisers said they had perfect weather on what was a great day for racing.
