Police officers have an important, but sometimes dangerous job in the community; for this reason Police Remembrance Day marks those officers who have either been killed on duty or died whilst serving. First commemorated in 1989 it occurs on 29 September each year.
Last Friday morning, officers and their guests marked the annual remembrance with a service at the cemetery, by the grave of Max Gilbert, one of three former police officers buried there, to honour those officers who have passed.
At the end of the service, guests were welcome to morning tea at the Police Club, allowing them to thank those officers who still serve our community so well.
