Local architect joins Greater Bendigo Heritage Advisory Committee

Recent stories

Maldon’s own Andrew Fedorowicz was last week formally appointed to the Greater Bendigo Heritage Advisory Committee. He will join one other architect, as well as the Greater Bendigo councillors, heritage advisors and town planners who make up the committee of around 10 members.

Andrew, pictured here at his beautiful historic residence, Palm House on High Street, told the [Tarrangower] Times this week that he is still coming to grips with how the committee operates before his first meeting on 19 October. He is clearly thrilled to be recognised with this appointment.

As we chatted over a beverage in Palm House’s living room, Andrew outlined the building’s history. The original residence was built in 1865 and added to during the 1890s. As we admired the stunning ceiling, Andrew explained that all-white is a contemporary fashion; in Victorian times there would have been 20 or more different colours on various parts of the ceiling. It called to mind ancient Greek statues – which we imagine were all white marble but which, in fact, were colourfully painted.

Andrew Fedorowicz started his private practice in 1982 and has lost none of his passion for innovative and exciting approaches to modern and period architectural design. He has won acclaim from the Australian Institute of Architects and the Housing Industry Association. His projects have regularly featured in publications such as Home Beautiful, House and Garden, and Classic & Country Decorating. Along the way he has collected an impressive array of prizes and awards – in fact, too many to mention here! Andrew is particularly proud of his work on the reconstruction of the 1884 Fernery at Ballarat Botanic Gardens, undertaken in 2020.
