Big win for Lachie

Recent stories

Lachie Neale is unstoppable.

Born in Naracoorte, the AFL superstar won his second Brownlow Medal in Brisbane on Monday night.

Known as the Lion King of AFL, the Brisbane co-captain has become the 16th player in VFL-AFL history to win the League’s biggest and most prestigious award multiple times.

The win also makes him AFL’s best-and-fairest player for a second time.

The former Naracoorte South Primary School student played his early years of football for Kybybolite before moving to Glenelg, Fremantle and now plays with the Brisbane Lions.

With 31 points, Neale won by just two points over Marcus Bontempelli of the Western Bulldogs.

Neale previously won the Brownlow medal in 2020 with a 10-vote lead over Travis Boak.

“Yeah it doesn’t sit very well, at the moment,” Neale said in his victory speech from the Lions’ Brownlow function in Brisbane.

“I’m sure it will sink in at a later date. I’m pretty rattled to be honest.”
