Last week, the Lions Free Skin Cancer Screening Unit was stationed in Nhill for three days.
The team of three qualified Dermascopists [all Lions members from across Victoria who had donated their time to perform this valuable service], the Unit administration person and the driver of the large Unit [also both Lions members], along with members of the Lions Club of Nhill Inc. who looked after the team with their meals and sustenance for the visit, are all to be congratulated on their service throughout the three very busy days of screening.
A few statistics below show not only the commitment and dedication of these people but also the obvious need for such a service in our area.
- Wednesday 13th Sept – 50 people were screened [18 males/32 females] with a percentage of 26 per cent referred for further investigation.
- Thursday 14th Sept – 50 people were screened [16 males/ 34 females] with a percentage of 16 per cent referred for further investigation.
- Saturday 16th Sept – 53 people were screened [19 males/ 34 females] with a percentage of 13 per cent referred for further investigation.
Unfortunately, some folk were unable to be fitted in for an appointment however it should be noted that the Unit will be in Kaniva on the 23rd and 24th September. Please call LINK in Kaniva to make your appointment. Remember this is a free service.
Finally, the Lions Club of Nhill Inc., in particular President Wayno Myers, wish to acknowledge all those who availed themselves of this important service.
“We would especially like to thank all those folk who made a monetary donation to the Unit,” said President Wayno. “An amazing total of $772.20 was given which shows, once again, the appreciation this community affords Lions projects.”
“The Unit will be back again, all being well, 2025. Once again, thank you to all.”
