Kids’ visit brings good cheer

Recent stories

Thirteen children braved a foggy winter’s morning last week and walked from Corryong Pre-school to Mittamatite Lodge Residential Aged Care to meet with residents.

They gave each resident a very cheery hello before settling in for morning tea, a spot of colouring-in and some good old-fashioned conversation.

Director of Clinical Services and Nursing, Sharon Edmondson, said it was wonderful to see children back in Mittamatite Lodge after so long.

The visit was the first of its kind since the pandemic lockdowns in 2020 and based on last week’s success, more are now planned.

The children weren’t afraid to ask questions, like “why can’t that lady talk properly” and were given honest, age-appropriate answers.

They talked, laughed, and sang for residents and all too soon it was time to leave.

Early childhood teacher, Cassie Verbaken, said the children loved their experience.

“Their families were all very happy and excited that we are doing this and they too wish for this to continue regularly,” she said.

Until next time, it’s “thumbs up” to Cassie, assistant Janet and 13 beautiful children who brightened the day of their new friends.
