Dogs stay in finals race

Recent stories

Bullioh’s finals campaign will continue after the Dogs comfortably accounted for Corryong in the 1st semi-final on Saturday by a massive 145 points.

After a testing and winless season, the Demons offered little resistance as Bulliohs scored at will, piling on 29 goals in the demolition.

Any doubts about Dogs’ spearhead Ash Murray taking the field were buried with a nine goal haul and he was well supported by Jesse Wellington and Clayton Bosman who chimed in with five and four goals respectively.

Dogs’ favourite Jake Curran was dominant in open space and with Lindsey McDonald and Broc Hardisty finding plenty of the Sherrin, the forward line had a feast.

Corryong had two flurries during the match, kicking three goals in the first and last terms and was best served by hard running Tom Saunders, the consistent Mitch Lauritzen and the tireless Thomas Shanks.

This week

The finals series enters its second week with Cudgewa posted as red hot favourites to advance to the decider with victory over Tumbarumba in the 2nd semifnal this Saturday.

The Roos have pushed the undefeated Blues in two of their four encounters this season, the closest margin being eight points in round seven when both sides kicked 11 goals.

However, the 110-point rout of the Roos in round 10 does not bode well for their chances this week.

Cudgewa’s talent-laden forward line dined out that day with coach Drew Cameron and sharpshooter Adam Prior combining for 13 goals, half of their team’s total.

The Bartel brothers – Jason and Josh – were also rampant as the Blues midfield ran riot.

With the likelihood of a ‘full deck’ in attack – Cameron, Prior and Brockley – the Roos will be stretched thin in defence.

Tumba’s on-ballers will need to prevent the likes of Craig Lieschke, Mitch Pynappels and Darcy McKimmie running amok or the game could be over in quick time.

Netball

Corryong confirmed its finals credentials with a hard fought six-goal win over Bullioh in the 1st semi.

The Demons ruled the court on Saturday with four of the club’s five teams in action winning through to the preliminary final.

The big guns – Cudgewa and Tumbarumba – go at each other this week with a win guaranteeing a grand final berth.

Cudgewa holds a 3-1 record over their opposition this season with less than six goals separating the two sides in their first three meetings; however a 17-goal victory to the Blues in round 10 will have sounded alarm bells for the Roos.
