Consultation extended

Recent stories

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has extended the consultation period for the proposed Toowoomba North South Transport Corridor, which has already caused quite a lot of controversy.

Public consultation has now been extended by more than a month to 8 September 2023.

Although the actual construction of the bypass is perhaps decades away, TMR is undertaking planning now to determine if corridor protection should proceed.

Bill Lansbury, Regional Director Southern Queensland of TMR, thanked community members for their feedback so far.

“The feedback we are receiving is diverse and we appreciate the efforts of many community members,” Mr Lansbury said.

“TMRs project team is available to discuss the project by phone, email or face-to-face meetings.

“The online survey will remain open and the project team will remain available by phone, email and post until September.

“Consultation is a highly valued process and all consultation feedback will be considered before a decision is made on the final transport corridor.”

The extension will give the community a chance to have a say on plans by Transport and Main Roads to protect a north-south transport corridor west of Toowoomba.

The proposed corridor aims to provide capacity for projected transport demand and increase the efficiency and safety of the greater Toowoomba transport network.

TMR have said it aims to include some “pop in face-to-face” consultation opportunities in the community in the coming weeks.

Online consultation has already received hundreds of contributions, mostly against the proposal.

Members of the public can provide feedback to TMR by phoning 1800 335 625, emailing tnstc@tmr.qld.gov.au or visiting TMR’s website tmr.qld.gov.au and searching for ‘TNSTC’.

Meeting being held at westbrook

Member for Condamine Pat Weir will be meeting with concerned residents to discuss the potential impact of the proposed transport corridor.

A meeting has been organised for next Monday, 31 July at 6pm at Aberfeldy Barn, 124 Macaulay Road, Westbrook.
