Recent stories

The grand finale of NAIDOC Week in Tennant Creek today promises to be a memorable event, with the winner of the 2023 Australian Idol competition taking the stage.

Royston Noell, a 24-year-old Thanakwith and Wagadagam man from Mapoon in far north Queensland, was crowned as the first winner of the series since 2009 back in March.

During the competition, Royston performed his new single, “Invincible,” for the first time, earning cheers and applause from the audience.

Royston shared that his main goal in participating in the show was to represent his community and inspire children to pursue their dreams, regardless of where they come from.

He hopes to make a positive impact and show kids in remote Indigenous communities that they too can achieve their goals.

Today, Royston will be performing at the Community Gathering held at the Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Cultural Centre at midday.

Attendees can expect a range of entertainment, as well as free food and giveaways.
