Combined schools cross country

The claypan flat at Yeovil was the place to be on a typical Wilcannia autumn day, giving the students and staff from Wilcannia Central School and St Therese’s School a perfect setting for the first combined schools cross country event.

The Central School’s two houses, Thillyana and Kiiku Kiiku war cry’s were matched by that from St. Therese’s, the enthusiasm from this was a great lead up into the event. Primary kids only had to run 1k, secondary had a 4k slog, well most of them did.

What shone throughout the day was the sportsmanship shown by all, especially noticeable was the older students shepherding the younger ones along and encouraging them to cross the finish line, (which also helped each team score points.)

Central School staff cooked a BBQ lunch which was followed by a hotly contested Tug-of-War. It would have been an early night in many Wilcannia households that night.
