Mother nature dealt the Kerang and District Agricultural Society an unfair hand as they prepared for the 136th Kerang Annual Show with rain that made the Kerang Turf Club waterlogged. It was a moment of damned if you do, damned if you don’t, deciding if the event would go ahead or not last week.

Considering food losses and the safety of animals and participants, the committee decided to cancel the animal exhibits, horse events and the smash-up derby due to safety concerns from recent rain, but continue with pavilion exhibits.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued warnings for Western and Northern Victoria, which has seen the cancellation of many horse events and complete shows in the past week and this coming weekend.

Saturday and Sunday were two gloriously sunny days for Kerang. With a call from carnival exhibitors, ‘do you mind if we set up?’, the once off Kerang Show became an on-show, with a small contingent of activities supporting the pavilions on Monday, becoming an impromptu stop for rides travelling through to their next venue.
