Bucking broncos at Borroloola Rodeo

Recent stories

Pam Dillon, Tennant & District Times

This year’s Borroloola show and Campdraft/Rodeo was a big success with various stands at the show and a big three-day event at the Rodeo grounds.

NBN, No more violence, NORFORCE, NT Fire Service, Roper Gulf Council, Steve Edgington Member for Barkly, seven Emus station bush medicine, Stumpy Adam’s bush craft, Li -Anthawirriuarra Sea Rangers and local jewellery were on show for all.

Children and parents enjoyed wandering around speaking to the various organisations and receiving free merchandise.

Games, raffles and the judging of local art, photography, craft, food and of course the favourite cakes were hotly contested.

The highlight was the water melon eating competition which saw adults and children munching away as quick as they could on a slice of cold watermelon.

Big crowds turned out to witness an exciting schedule of events that included Campdraft, Bareback cutting, Gymkhana, Barrel Race, Bull ride, Station Buckjump, Steer Ride, Bullock ride, Poddy ride, Saddle Bronc ride.

Big teamwork by all was witnessed when a fire broke out in one of the campsites. Luckily the local fire service was at the event to help out, everyone rushed over to help put it out.

Unfortunately, a campervan was destroyed but no one or live stock were hurt and the fire was put out quickly.

Action with in the arena not only had the riders on their toes but the crowd as well, with some of the bulls deciding that charging at the fence seemed like fun.

Big cheers were heard across the arena when the local fellas were bucked around the arena on a bull or horse. Once again, Roz Kerr kept the crowd going with her fantastic commentary and her knowledge of all the participates. All the children were invited for a dance competition where the dust was being raised with great footwork and dance moves.

Some of the adults showed us their moves after the children which bought plenty of whistles and coo weeing from the crowd.

Who would think that you could ride a horse in just Chaps, G-String, boots and a tie? Oh yes it was all happening at this year’s Borroloola Rodeo in the Open Costume Barrel Race.

Great support from the local community of Borroloola and a big thank you best medics who looked after all that came to them with knowledgeable care.

Also to all those who helped behind the scene to make it such a success.

Everyone is looking forward to 2023 Borroloola Show and Campdraft/Rodeo.
