Camellia Show one of the best ever with over 960 blooms

The Narrandera District Garden Club’s 2022 Camellia Show at the weekend was one of the best ever, with 960 blooms of exceptional quality on display in the Narrandera Ex-servicemen’s Club auditorium.

Garden Club Secretary Denise di Dalvia said it was one of the best shows she had seen in years and attracted a very high quality of blooms from visiting and local exhibitors.

Local exhibitors won four of the major sections. Joan and Steve Lloyd of Narrandera took out three of the championship awards, winning the A W Jessup Medal and the John Sullivan Memorial Trophy for the champion bloom of the show.

As well as 960 blooms on show there were more than 200 blooms in the tub.

Trophy winners were:

A W Jessup Medal and The John Sullivan Memorial Trophy awarded for the Champion Bloom of the Show won by Joan and Steve Lloyd with the japonica hybrid bloom “Debbie” (Class 43)

Reserve Champion Bloom won by D and G Klemke with the reticulata bloom “Lady Pamela” (Class 89)

Jean Hendry Memorial Trophy awarded for the Champion Bloom Grown in the Narrandera Shire won by Joan and Steve Lloyd with “Debbie” (Class 43)

Allan Swinbourne Memorial Trophy for the Best Semi-Double Japonica/Japonica Hybrid won by Jill Sullivan with the japonica bloom “Great Eastern” (Class 54)

George Hinchley Memorial Trophy awarded for the Best Three Informal Double Japonicas/Japonica Hybrids won by Joan and Steve Lloyd with three blooms of “Debbie” (Class 26)

Hume Camellia Society Trophy awarded for the Best Formal Double Bloom in the Show won by Jean Bevan with the japonica bloom “Black Tie” (Class 39)

Peter and Margaret Levick Trophy Awarded for the Best Small/Miniature Bloom in the Show won by D and G Klemke with the hybrid bloom “Faerie Cups” (Class 79)

Barry Di Salvia Memorial Points Score Trophy won by D and G Klemke.

Narrandera Shire Councillor Narelle Payne officially opened the show and presented the awards.

The Garden Club was very appreciative of the help given by Narrandera Rotarians and Probus members in setting up the show.
