Tennant High School teacher wins national top educator award

Recent stories

A Tennant Creek High School teacher has been named among Australia’s top educators in the Commonwealth Bank Teaching Awards.

Senior Teacher for Inclusion Fransina Norval was recognised for her work in combining in-formed practices, with a wealth of experience teaching in special education and growing a strong support system for her students with complex needs.

The dedicated teacher has supported the planning and implementation of a flexible learning space at the High School to create the feeling of safeness for students with disabilities which has led to a 90 per cent attendance rate increase by disengaged at risk-students.

“I’m humbled to be announced as a winner this year, receiving this award is also a reflection of great teamwork and collaboration,” Fransina said.

“What I do is not about changing education, but about changing the educational outcomes for a small group of students and hopefully for many more to come.”

Fransina will receive a $45,000 Teaching Fellowship, including $10,0000 for professional development, a group study tour and $25,000 for their school to develop a project.
