Live stream for Covid affected dance project

Recent stories

A joyful live streamed dance event, Because of You…Narrogin, will be performed on Saturday, July 23 at 10am, live online throughout regional WA.

Because of You…Narrogin follows the success of Because of You…Denmark and other performances at Gosnells and Broome.

The online dance project harnesses the creativity of children across regional WA, to celebrate familial relationships.

Children aged 4-7 have worked together with adults they love, to create their own dance performance through a series of games masterminded by inspirational choreographer Sandi Woo.

Denmark-based project producer Annette Carmichael says the impact of Covid-19 on the Narrogin community had been challenging for people to participate in the project as planned.

So workshops were delivered online to families leading to the creation of a live streamed performance to showcase the work of artists from Denmark and Narrogin.

This online performance is the culmination of many weeks of remote rehearsals.

It will showcase dance created by families from Denmark, Katanning, Narrogin and Wickepin.

Four year old Denmark participant Posie Pedersen says: “I can see my friend on there, she doesn’t live in Denmark. Daddy lifts me up and spins me. It’s so fun.”

Posie’s father Trevor Pedersen says he jumped at the idea of dancing with Posie “Annette and Sandi are incredible with children and ultimately for creating this project, to connect with family,” he said.

“Also I am dancing with like minded parents from all over the State, it makes it fun watching each other.”

Denmark musician David Rastrick has written the music for dance performances, while Narrogin’s Casey Thornton has created visual art to run throughout.

Tickets can be bought online for $10 a household from www.artsnarrogin.com.au.

Ticket holders will receive a link to either watch the performance live, or later.

The Annette Carmichael Projects-produced project is presented by Arts Narrogin, with support from Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries and Lotterywest Creative Communities Covid-19 Recovery Program.
