At the time of writing for the last Gazette edition the landscape was becoming quite dry and the fire risk was increasing.

Ironically by the time that edition hit the streets the rain had arrived and has been pretty persistent since. Whilst the outlook at the moment is for rain to continue, once the hot weather arrives and if the rain stops, long grass will quickly dry out and become a fire hazard.

Slashing long grass can mitigate that risk. Staying aware of your conditions and removing potential hazards will help prevent loss.

Dunoon brigade members meet each Wednesday, continually training to hone their skills to remain prepared when called to respond to a range of incidents.

In December, brigade members responded to 6 calls over a 4 day period, with two involving structure fires. Sadly one was an RFS volunteer who lost their home. It is an important reminder to check to make sure your smoke alarms are in good working order.

On behalf of all Dunoon RFS members we would like to wish everyone a very happy, safe Christmas and prosperous New Year.
