Barkly Mayor Jeffrey McLaughlin has been awarded this year’s Paul Harris Fellow by the local Rotary Club.
The event was also an opportunity to meet Rotary’s Area Governor, Ray Fauntleroy, who gave a presentation on some of the important projects Rotary is involved in, and his experience with Rotary’s work in Timor.
Copies of the book 100 Years of Rotary were also presented to the Barkly Regional Council and Tennant Creek High School for their respective libraries.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a Paul Harris Fellow to the Mayor, in recognition of all his contributions to the community in Tennant Creek.
The Mayor was moved by the well-deserved honour, paying tribute to partner Beck Way for her support.
The evening was beautifully wrapped up by a performance of folk dancing by our local Balitaw Dancers, Kennesa Mercadal and Rameteti Tairoa, who were mentored by Melinda Baker.
The Paul Harris Fellow is awarded to individuals who contribute to the humanitarian and educational programs of the Rotary Foundation.
The Foundation was founded by Paul Harris and three business associates in 1905, and the awards have been held in his honour since 1957.
Each new Paul Harris Fellow receives a commemorative certificate and a lapel pin.
