Students from Newcastle Waters and Elliott schools recently had a day each learning the fine art of lawn bowls.
Students from Family as First Teachers (FaFT) to Year 9 were involved in a variety of activities using the lawn bowls kit.
The younger students played “Rob the Nest” and learnt how to bowl the correct way before playing games using these skills to score points on aiming charts.
The older students at first found it a little challenging to bowl the lawn bowls slowly but after a few sessions mastered the fine art and had their bowls reaching the target.
Barkly Region Sports Education Coordinator Pam Dillon also mentored the Elliott teachers on how to use activities involving the lawn bowls in other learning areas such as maths and literacy to enhance students learning beyond the classroom.
