Arts About – ADH…ME!?

Nancy Whittaker. There is yet another little gallery called Cut it Out, which opened last Friday in Maldon, in the Post Office Residence in High Street. Artist and Curator Lisa Speed is complementing her This Little Piggy cooking skills with artwork in an exhibition titled ADH…ME!?, featuring the work of Jacki Irwin.

Community earns president’s praise

Patricia Gill. Shire president Ceinwen Gearon will resign after seven years in the job firm of the opinion that achievements over the time are not hers but the community’s. Dr Gearon says ‘her’ achievements have been a collaboration between the community, the Denmark Shire Council and Shire administration officers.

Imogen fighting her way to the top

Jess Liddy. Imogen McDonnell initially took up boxing for her fitness, but her love of the sport has taken her to places she could have never imagined. Originally from Minlaton, McDonnell, a 25-year-old nurse and trackwork rider, began boxing competitively in 2022.

Gun shearer tops circuit

Lockhart shearer Nicki Guttler has had a very busy 12 months on the NSW Sports Shear Circuit. She has been competing in the senior level against the men in 12 shows, coming first seven times, second two times, third two times and failed to reach the final in one event. All in all she was the top competitor at the end of the circuit by 28 points.

McNicholls shattered after cochlear implant bungle

Fin Hansen. Seventeen years after receiving a cochlear implant, Bailey McNicholl has discovered his hearing could have been blocked by a flawed hospital system... The faults resulted in the potential under-mapping of implants, meaning devices were incorrectly programmed in up to 208 recipients, including now 23-year-old Bailey.

National champion Bailey Harm

Allora swimmer Bailey Harm has returned from the School Sport Australia National Championships in Sydney with a 2023 SSA National Champion title in the 50m Freestyle sprint. Bailey competed in seven events at the Championships, bringing home six national medals.

Hindmarsh Shire new CEO appointed

Hindmarsh Shire Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Jessie Holmes as its new Chief Executive Officer after a competitive recruitment process. Ms Holmes will be well known to the local community, completing her schooling at Dimboola Memorial Secondary College, and having spent the past twelve months as the Director Infrastructure Services with Hindmarsh Shire Council.

Former Narrandera resident and high school student Cooper Maher, 24, is still living with a brain injury almost a year after his horror crash. Cooper had just buried a friend who died by suicide when he jumped behind the wheel of a car after having a few drinks.

Hang glider inventor honoured

The man credited with inventing the modern hang glider, John Dickenson, was honoured by Clarence Valley Council Mayor Ian Tiley at the August council meeting after he passed away aged 89. In the early 1960s Mr Dickenson and a group of water-skiing enthusiasts were working on a ‘kite’ as a stunt to promote the Grafton Water Ski Club’s Jacaranda Festival carnival.
