Australian Rural & Regional News reminds readers that a media release is a statement of the author given. Media releases vary widely in reliability and may contain a combination of fact, aspirational statements, opinion, political commentary and even error. Especially on contentious issues, we suggest our readers read widely and assess the statements made by different parties and form their own view.

Art Gallery of Ballarat, Media Release, 1 June 2026

The Art Gallery of Ballarat brings World Press Photo to regional Victoria for the first time this August. Each year, the contest highlights the outstanding work of photojournalists and documentary photographers from across the globe.

The exhibition offers broad perspectives and intimate insider views on issues such as the far-reaching impact of the climate crisis from Los Angeles to the Philippines, Mexico, and Norway, while also highlighting civic action and the fight for rights through images of protests in the United States and the women’s movements in Guatemala and youth protests in Madagascar.

Engage with some of the most important photographs of the year at Art Gallery of Ballarat’s offsite venue, the Mining Exchange.

The World Press Photo Foundation is supported by the following corporate sponsors: the Dutch Postcode Lottery and FUJIFILM.

We thank our local partners Black & Ginger Wines and Gawk Outdoor.
