Residents are invited to take part in an upcoming Fire Wise Planting Bus Tour Workshop, designed to provide practical tips on landscaping in fire-prone areas.

The workshop is one of four initiatives being delivered by Council in partnership with community organisations, funded through the Victorian Government’s Safer Together Program – Strengthening Local Government Partnerships.

Hosted by Pyrenees Community House, the guided tour will visit Heritage Fruit Trees and Cave Hill Creek, where participants can explore examples of both European-style and native fire wise gardens, and learn how thoughtful planting can improve property safety and resilience, and plant selection.

The workshops are free of charge to the community and will be held on Saturday 30 May, departing from the Pyrenees Community House car park at 10am. A free lunch will be provided at Cave Hill Creek for workshop participants. Bookings are essential and can be made by calling 5349 3150 or emailing events@pyreneeshouse.org.au.

A Fire Wise Garden Forum and a Fire Wise Garden Design Workshop are also planned for Saturday 13 June, with further details to be released soon.

The Safer Together Program also sees a number of other initiatives in planning including:

• Development of a Fire Wise Planting Guide which will have limited quantities available for free to community.
• A Bushfire Resilient Homes Expo in October featuring a well- known gardening expert.
• Development of a Community Resilience Plan for Landsborough and surrounding areas
