Dear Yanchep News Online,
Friends of Two Rocks Yanchep Coastal Bushland is a group of locals who love living here and are concerned about the potential destruction of the Two Rocks Rd coastal bushland between Capricorn Coastal Village structure plan area and Two Rocks marina.
Our vision is to save this unique coastal landscape with its native flora and fauna as a nature reserve and for public recreation.
This is important because this Quindalup dune system is one of the last remaining examples of coastal heath bushland within the northern metropolitan coastal zone, which has steadily disappeared along our coast with ongoing development.
At present this section of land has been designated for urban development and we believe any development needs to be considerate of the natural environment and the local community.
The benefits of saving this bushland include:
- The natural environment is one of the key reasons we live here on the coast. Two Rocks and Yanchep communities and visitors benefit from the walking trails, beach and surf access and quiet reflective areas that enhance our collective health and wellbeing. We support opportunities for sustainable and low-impact development along this coastline that enhance rather than destroy the environment.
- Our native plants and animals deserve our protection. The newly discovered Yanchep peacock jumping spider has already been bulldozed before being able to be listed and protected and this can’t be the only precious or endangered species within the local unique dune ecosystem.
- Retaining this section of bushland along the coast contributes to a wildlife corridor with Yanchep National Park and supports a healthy, thriving and resilient environment amidst the land clearing in surrounding local areas for housing.
