Recent stories

The town’s time capsule was installed in its new home last week, lowered carefully from above onto the original stand.

Once displayed in the grounds of the former St Paul’s Church, in Moppett Street, the time capsule was donated to the town by David Kenton, when he purchased the land from the church several years ago.

In a full circle moment, Crighton’s Rural Engineering once again donated the use of a crane to hoist the time capsule into place, this time in Hay Park, adjacent to the Boer War Memorial in Pine Street.

Twenty-five years ago, it was the late Frank Crighton at the helm of the crane. He re-placed the former World War II-era sea mine into place after it was opened in the year 2000, 25 years after being first sealed in 1975.

The time capsule will next be opened in 2050.
