CWA celebrates 90 years in Hay
The Country Women’s Association is best known for its scones, but CWA’s roots go much deeper than that.
For 90 years, the Hay branch has continually served the community in many ways, with the first project being the establishment of the former Baby Health Centre.
The milestone was celebrated with a well-attended Fare and Market Day on Saturday.
In her welcome address, long serving member, former president and qualified Land Cookery judge, Liz Gibson said over the years members worked hard to donate much-needed funds to many organisations.
These include the much-needed baby scales for the Baby Health Centre.
“Today we pride ourselves on still having a strong membership of very interesting ladies from diverse backgrounds, all willing to be involved in many activities – not just tea and scones,” Mrs Gibson said.
These include the Primary School Public Speaking competition, tea house at Hay Show, biennial flower show, visits to Haydays and the very popular casserole lunches.
CWA donates prizes annually to all schools and encourage students to take part in International Day activities and Land Cookery.
