Henley Park, Edenhope, Vic – Get ready for a tail-wagging celebration as the much-loved Day of the Dackel returns in 2025! Dachshund lovers from near and far will gather in Edenhope to honour these adorable long-bodied companions with a day full of fun, festivities, and furry friends.
Taking place on 30 March, Day of the Dackel 2025 will once again transform the town into a dachshund paradise. The event, hosted by the Edenhope Dachshund Museum, promises a packed schedule, thrilling Dachshund Races, a Best Dressed Dackel Competition, and plenty of dog-friendly activities for all to enjoy.
The day kicks off at 9:00 AM with the market stalls, followed by the dog show at 10:15 AM. The Hobby Dachshund Race, specially for kids 12 and under, will be held before lunch. After lunch, the excitement continues with the Dachshund Races and an Open Dog Race for dogs no more than 30 cm at the shoulder.
Early arrivals on Saturday, 29 March, can enjoy a meet and greet at a private fully fenced dog park, where dachshunds can run and play while their pawrents relax over a coffee. Later that evening, there will be a PJ Party for both human and hound at the Edenhope Lakeside Tourist Park recreation room. Attendees can BYO food & drinks for a fun BBQ tea to kick off the festivities in style.
“We are so excited to bring this event back in 2025 and celebrate everything dachshund,” said Diana Lee Saville, founder of the Edenhope Dachshund Museum and organiser of the event. “Each year, the festival grows bigger and better, and we can’t wait to welcome dachshunds and their devoted humans for a day of fun and community spirit.”
New to this year’s event is the Hobby Dachshund Race for kids 12 and under. The Edenhope Men’s Shed has kindly handcrafted 10 hobby dachshunds—similar to hobby horses—so children can participate in their own fun-filled race on the day.
Visitors can browse market stalls, enjoy live entertainment (TBC), and indulge in delicious food and drink, all while meeting fellow dachshund enthusiasts. The event is not just for dachshund owners – all dog lovers are welcome to join in the festivities.
People travel from as far as Tasmania and Queensland, some visiting Edenhope for the first time, to be part of this much-loved event. Day of the Dackel has become a significant tourism boost for the region, benefiting several local businesses and putting Edenhope on the map as a must-visit destination for dachshund lovers across Australia.
