Visions to Tram-sform Donald’s Railway Precinct

Recent stories

Donald is known as a hub for innovation, and this spirit was on full display as the Donald 2000 committee brought the community together for its recent “Tram-sformation” event.

The event sparked a wave of fresh ideas and creative visions for the newly positioned tram at the Donald Railway Station, showcasing the town’s passion for revitalising heritage in a way that celebrates the past, while creating new opportunities to attract visitors and strengthen community pride.

“The event concept itself is a refreshing switch from the stock-standard committee meeting, with food and drinks flowing and the entertainment creating a lively atmosphere,” said Buloke Shire Council Mayor Cr Alan Getley.

“They certainly know how to draw a crowd and it is inspiring to see how the people of Donald are thinking big about the future of their town.”

Locals shared bold ideas on how the tram could be transformed into a vibrant community space.

Suggestions ranged from painting the tram, mini movie screenings and arts hubs, to interactive history exhibits and event spaces each reflecting the town’s enthusiasm for creating unique attractions.

Donald 2000 president Jodie Hollis said the event highlights the community’s forward-thinking spirit.

“The incredible ideas shared today show how the tram can become a symbol of both our history and our future a space where stories are shared, visitors gather, and local creativity thrives,” said Jodie.

Attendees explored the tram’s interior, participated in interactive discussions, and enjoyed tours of the railway precinct. The event also generated conversations about tourism opportunities and local economic growth.

The “Tram-sformation” event marks the first step in a broader consultation process, with Donald 2000 set to compile feedback and collaborate with key stakeholders to shape the precinct’s future.

The event was funded by the Australian and Victorian Government’s Community Recovery Hubs Program with support of Buloke Shire Council.
