Disappointing start to 2025 for local racing team, Kermit Racing

Recent stories

After much anticipation, preparation and travelling more than ten hours to One Raceway near Goulburn in NSW, Kermit Racing’s weekend finished just 5 hours after the race start.

Kermit Racing’s driver team for this event was Graeme Ussing, David Morrison, Paul Newcombe and Brady Newcombe. While the team were most nervous about the reliability of the engine – purchased from an auto wrecker a week before the event and untested, it was a wheel hub that failed and ended the team’s racing for the weekend.

Team spokesperson, Graeme Ussing says ‘it was a surprise to get the wheel hub apart and discover that it was a specialised hub, custom made for racing. While that means that the hubs last longer than those in normal road cars, it does make sourcing replacements difficult. We have found a business that makes these hubs but that is the end of our racing for the weekend. At least all four drivers have had a chance to drive this weekend. This was Brady’s first drive and he was undaunted by the short track, tight corners and large numbers of cars, posting some of the fastest lap times for Kermit.

Sixty teams from across Australia lined up for the first event of 2025, and the first event at the new One Raceway. The raceway was formerly Wakefield Park and has undergone extensive works making it one of the few race tracks in Australia designed to have cars race in either direction. Sadly, the green EA Falcon did not make it to the second day of racing to try out this new and unusual feature. While the short 2.3 kilometre track is not suited to a big car like the EA Falcon, Kermit Racing was in 15th place at the time of their early exit.

Although everyone is involved in races because they love the thrill, the main aim of the event is to raise money for Rare Cancers Australia. Kermit Racing has raised more than $16,000 in the past few years and holds second place in overall fundraising. We wouldn’t be able to do this without the help of sponsors and donors. WestVic Spares continues to provide welcome support and we urge everyone to head their way for spare parts and accessories.

In total Motor Events Racing has donated $252,000 to Rare Cancers Australia. If you would like to donate or provide sponsorship please contact team member Graeme Ussing 0458 378 373.

The next race event will be at Winton Raceway, near Benalla in March 2025.
