Berridge Park will get a $5 million upgrade following a Lottery West grant of $2,857,500 announced last Friday at the Christmas Festival.
The Lottery West grant is in addition to the Shire of Denmark’s $1.5 million earmarked for the project and the State Government’s $697,666 Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund allocation.
A concept plan will be developed to a detailed design before works begin next year.
The Denmark Shire Council adopted the Berridge Park concept plan in February this year, following community consultation on the proposed design.
The concept plan (above) features improvements to public and youth recreational infrastructure while retaining existing mature trees and quiet spaces to retain and enhance the park’s place in the landscape.
The plan is to create an intergenerational space that people, young and old, can enjoy and be proud of.
Shire president Kingsley Gibson said securing such strong financial support for a project was testament to the community-focused design process, particularly the input from youth.
“As a result, the overwhelming community support for the design was a key point in the Shire’s advocacy to funding bodies and I’ve no doubt was a big contributor to our success,” Councillor Gibson said.
“We can build what our community envisioned.”
More details about the project will be released soon.
