Lockhart shearer Nicki Guttler will attempt the Women’s 8-Hour Merino Lamb Shearing World Record at Parkdale Merino Stud near Dubbo on December 21 2024.
The current record of 395 lambs was set on November 17, 2024 near Yass.
Nicki has had another successful shearing year, competing at the Golden Shears in New Zealand in March, coming third in a female invitational and 23rd out of 56 in the senior shearing.
When Nicki came home in March, there was limited shearing in this area due to less sheep and cropping time so she headed north to Dubbo to start working for Steven “Muddy” Mudford.
With the record on her radar, she just needed to be shearing sheep and lots of them.
In October 2024, Muddy attempted the nine hour solo Merino Wether Shearing Record, shearing 421 and beating the previous record by three.
Nicki is the first female in Australia to win an Open Shearing competition, taking out the Tullamore Quick Shear in August 2024. In October, she also represented NSW at Nationals in Katanning, WA, in blade shearing, making the final and coming sixth in Australia.
Nicki has been competing in the Open competition as often as she can. She has made the finals in her last three competitions and is currently sitting in third place.
Now she will finish the year off with a World Record attempt.
Supporters can follow the link on the day and cheer her on and send her messages encouraging her to get to the end or if anyone wants to do it the old-fashioned way, they can put their messages in an envelope and post it to 160 Jack Mitchell’s Lane Lockhart NSW 2656 and they will be passed on to her.
