In a night filled with nostalgia, gratitude, and camaraderie, the Tennant Creek Branch of Bushfires NT marked a significant milestone on Saturday night at the Sporties Club as they celebrated 25 years of dedicated service to the local community.
Members, both past and present, as well as invited guests gathered to commemorate this remarkable achievement. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a commemorative plaque to the unit by Executive Director Colleen Bremner, honouring their quarter century of operation in Tennant Creek.
Long service medals were also bestowed upon Kevin Stout and Justin Hankinson. Although Keven was unable to attend in person due to illness, the recognition of his service was a poignant moment. Justin, the only original member still actively serving in the unit, received his medal with pride.
Amidst a delightful dinner and formal ceremonies, guests were treated to a captivating talk by David Curtis Snr, who shared his experiences of surviving Cyclone Tracy.
His first hand account provided an eye opening and fascinating insight for those unfamiliar with such natural disasters.
Here’s to many more years of excellence and commitment in safeguarding the local area from bushfires.
