Horse, goats, children, baby ‘Jesus’

Recent stories

The show must go on!

Stage right – a horse pops its head in. Stage left – baby goats await for their cue. On stage, a real baby sleeps in ‘Mary’s’ arms. ‘Joseph’ looks slightly perplexed. Bales of hay are propped. A manger lies centre stage. Children try to recall rehearsals. Nervous and excited families, friends and a ‘full house’ congregation await in anticipation. Mobile cameras and video recorders are at the ready…

What could go wrong?

As it turned out, nothing went wrong. Quite the opposite.

Early evening Wednesday last week the Christmas Show was on at the Trinity Anglican Church, Maldon, and a good time was had by all. Though a sigh of relief was reportedly heard from Reverend Darcy Vaughan when the invisible final curtain came down to close the show.

Reverend Darcy introduced the show by announcing that everyone had been busy learning the Christmas story and making things like props and costumes. “So please be sure to appreciate the very high level of craftmanship that’s gone into tonight’s show.”

Maldon Kids Club is for primary-age children. “I’d like to thank Cheryl Hart, Lesley Bowe and Nola Fankhauser who helped with the Club all term. And thank you to all the children involved.”

Other back-of-house stage crew included:

  • Philippa Vaughan – set up.
  • Louise Clarke – kids choirmaster.
  • Jill Findlay – harpist.
  • Daniel Clarke – organist.
  • Baby Florence, Bella, Jesse – guess who they played?
  • Nicole and Harrison Funston and Red the horse.
  • Pauline Liston and the mini goats.
  • Jason Govier – kids BBQ.
