Narrandera’s festive season begins with Lions big weekend

Recent stories

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas with the Narrandera Lions Club gearing up for their usual festivities to help residents and visitors celebrate the festive season.

Lions will be hosting the annual Narrandera Carols in the Park this Sunday December 17 in conjunction with the Christmas Lions Community Market.

The markets are set to start from 4pm and will include a range of stalls from all the regulars such as Iris Schofield’s Condiments and Succulents, Lorna’s Candles and Fragrances, NC Pots, Possum Patch, Whilst at Home and Salami Shack.

There will also be new additions selling decorative Mossie Coil holders, Charms for Crocs, Themed Party Supplies, handmade jewellery and flowers plus more.

Food stalls will be available such as the Narrandera Lions Club van from 5pm, Roadies Donuts, JJs Fun Foods, Riverina Sip and Go serving coffee and milk drinks, Twisted Potatoes, lemonade, fairy floss and snow cones not to mention Gillenbah Rural Fire Service’s delicious pancakes.

After exploring the range of stalls, everyone is welcome to stay for the Carols in the Park which will kick off at 6.30pm and feature performances from Narrandera East Infants School, Narrandera Primary School and St Joseph’s School Narrandera.

Local church groups such as Narrandera CRC and St Johns Uniting Church will also be in attendance with the evening’s Christmas message to be presented by Father Scott Mudd from St Thomas Anglican Church.

Leading the Community Carols will be the Narrandera Combined Choir and Band and there will also be a performance by the Riverina Men’s Choir and With One Voice Choir.

Other performers of the night will include Texas Rose, Rachel Warren, Hayley Ruffles, Phoebe Romeo and Toni Campbell as well as a guitar ensemble.

The evening is hosted by Narrandera Lions Club with Sam Wright as MC for the evening.

After a great night at the carols and markets, Christmas Lights Tours will start the following Monday December 18 and will run until Saturday December 23.

Reserving seats on the train through Trims Collective is crucial, given the limited availability of only 27 seats per night. Tickets are selling swiftly and are priced at $10 for adults, $5 for children and $25 for a family of five.

Those who are already booked on the tours will meet the Narrandera Lions Train at Marie Bashir Park from 8.15pm for a 8.30pm start.

The Lions Club wishes to thank Elizabeth Walsh and Kerry Hopwood assisted by Brenda Hartmire for putting the carols program together and to Bill Howitt for passing on such a well organised plan from all the previous carols events he had helped organise.

The Club would also like to thank the sponsors of this year’s Carols in the Park the Manildra Group, Stromlo Energy, JBS Meats, Narrandera Bakery, Narrandera IGA, Narrandera Gourmet Meats, Fikri Films and Narrandera Signs.
