St Patrick’s get $2.9m boost

Recent stories

St Patrick’s School in Nhill is set to undergo significant improvements with the announcement of a $2.9 million grant from the Federal Government’s Capital Grants Program. The funding, totalling $2,901,375, will enable the construction of a new general learning area, a covered outdoor area, and an administration area. Additionally, the grant will support the refurbishment of existing general learning areas and specialist spaces.

Senator Jana Stewart, representing the Albanese Government, expressed her enthusiasm for the project. “The Albanese Government is delivering much-needed funding for St Patrick’s School to modernise infrastructure and equipment,” she remarked. Senator Stewart highlighted the importance of excellent facilities in great schools, noting that the upgrades will benefit not only the current students and staff but also future generations. She emphasised the role of a strong school community in regional areas and the positive impact these new facilities will have.

Adding to the excitement, Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor Brett Ireland also welcomed the grant. He praised the commitment to education in rural and remote areas and anticipated the enhancement of Nhill’s education program for years to come. Mayor Ireland extended congratulations to the school’s headmaster, Kingsley, and his staff for their dedication to making St. Patrick’s a remarkable place of learning.

Principal of St Patrick’s School Kingsley Dalgleish said, “As a school community we are extremely excited and extremely grateful as well.”

“This will be good for our whole school community – the children, the staff and for families. It will also be a great asset for Nhill and the wider community as well.”

“We have three very good schools in Nhill for families to be able to choose what they perceive to be the best option for their children. Each is or, soon will have, undergone capital improvements, and it means that we can all continue to offer our local community modern educational facilities.” Mr Dalgleish said.

The year 2024 will mark a milestone for St Patrick’s School as they celebrate their 75th anniversary since opening in 1949. This grant signifies a new chapter in the school’s history, promising upgraded facilities and improved educational outcomes.
