Broadcasting plenty of birthday cheers

Recent stories

There wasn’t enough room to fit such a large number of candles on the cake, but the team at local radio station 2GF are proud to celebrate its 90th birthday this month.

Since the first microphone was officially switched on, and the first voices carried smoothly across the airwaves throughout the region on December 15, 1923, 2GF has been a valued resource within the Clarence Valley community, and is widely renowned, loved, and respected, for its diverse content, professionalism, commitment to quality journalism, dedication, and devotion to the thousands of listeners who tune in every day.

In the constantly evolving communications industry, 2GF has successfully adapted throughout its long and proud history, efficiently delivering new ways of sharing the latest news and information, bulletins, music, and emergency broadcasts to its audience via a diverse range of mediums from digital radio to social media.

The 63rd broadcasting station to go to air in Australia, 2GF was also the first radio station to be established on the east coast between Brisbane and Newcastle. “It’s not every day a radio station turns 90,” said General Manager Paul Covington.

“2GF has a very proud history in the Clarence Valley, and to celebrate such an important milestone, it’s a reflection of what it means to the people who live here, and switch on their radios to listen in each day.”

Clarence Valley residents are invited to join the 2GF team at the Crown Hotel Motel in Grafton on Friday, December 15, to celebrate 90 years of broadcasting.

The event will run from 3-6:30pm, and will feature an outdoor broadcast, and plenty of opportunities for locals to share their best memories of 2GF through the years.

To RSVP, please visit the 2GF Facebook page, or call 6642 2895.
