New greens get thumbs up

Recent stories

The official launch of the Corryong Golf Club’s new synthetic greens on the weekend attracted players from throughout the region and drew many favourable comments about the new surface.

The facility improvements also included a new deck on the Corryong Sporting Complex which overlooks the re-positioned 9th hole, making it a genuine feature of the revamped course.

These projects were made possible with the assistance of two bushfire recovery grants and additional funding from the Corryong Sporting Complex of just over $100,000 and the contribution of all the volunteers who have been involved at various stages along the way.

The golf course upgarde was part funded by the Victorian government’s Local Economic Recovery grant program and the club improvements were part funded by Border Trust Community Foundation as trustee of the Towong Shire Community Bushfire Disaster Relief Fund.

These contributions to the club improvements have been recognised on a commemorative plaque on the deck.

After the 2019-20 bushfires and the onset of the pandemic a few months later the course was essentially out of action for two years.

In a message to the club, Minister for Emergency Services, Jaclyn Symes, said “We’re proud to be supporting fire-affected local businesses like the Corryong Sporting Complex.

“We know that recovery from major disasters takes time and grants like these help communities get back on their feet,” Ms Symes said.

“We’re proud to see these results in Corryong and to stand by the local community as they progress in their recovery.”

The Sporting Complex received a grant of $327,004 for the works.
