College art inspires pride in heroes

Recent stories

Towong Shire libraries in Corryong and Tallangatta are showcasing a collection of local war heroes assembled by Year 6 students in the region, as part of an Anzac Day research project.

Using digitised service records from the National Archives of Australia, students created informative posters detailing the service history of individuals listed on their town’s war memorials, transforming them into vivid representations of local heroes who fought for our freedom.

Approximately 80 posters are on display at both the Elyne Mitchell Library in Corryong and the Tallangatta Integrated Community Centre (library) until May 4th.

Opening the Corryong exhibition on Tuesday, Towong mayor, Cr Andrew Whitehead, expressed his appreciation for the initiative.

“This collaborative effort between our libraries and local schools is a testament to our commitment to honour and remember the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women,” he said

“It’s heartening to see our younger generation engage with our history in such a meaningful way.

“These posters educate and inspire our community which, in turn, gives us a greater sense of pride and unity in our community.”

Cr Whitehead thanked the following schools for their contribution to the initiative – Bethanga Primary School, Khancoban Primary School, Kiewa Valley Primary School, Tangambalanga Mitta Mitta Primary School, St. Michael’s Primary School Tallangatta, Talgarno Primary School and Tallangatta
