If you’re interested in Celtic music, here’s an event not to be missed: the Celtic Piping Club is hosting an event at the Ray Bradfield Room in Castlemaine on Saturday 4 November, starting at 8pm. Internationally acclaimed duo Colm Broderick on uilleannn pipes and Francis Cunningham on concertina will be performing.
The concert is part of an Australian tour that has been arranged by the Celtic Piping Club and is supported by Culture Ireland. Colm will be playing on a very special set of uileann pipes that have great historical significance in Irish traditional music. The pipes were once owned by master piper Liam O’Flynn, and were also played for many years by piper Willie Clancy.
Joining the duo at the concert will be local musicians Allan Evans (traditional flute and harp) and Ruth Boylan (concertina, fiddle and harp).
Castlemaine is the ‘home’ of the Celtic Piping Club, which since 2013 has held an annual three-day residential pipe music event and also organises public performances.
Tickets for $25 can be purchased in advance at https://www.trybooking.com/CLJMZ or with cash at the door. Youth under 18 years are free.
