Twenty-one Tennant Creek Girl Guides enjoyed a great day on the waters of Lake Mary Anne last weekend.
Girls ranging in ages from 5 to 14 years paddled around the lake and at times found paddling rather difficult with the windy conditions. But as girl guides do, they stuck together and helped each other to overcome the difficult conditions.
It was really good to see the older guides demonstrating and teaching the younger guides some of the paddling strokes and safety whilst in a canoe.
After lunch, the winds died down, and the girls ventured back out on the lake and explored other areas of the lake.
The girls played various games which included filling a canoe with their team and having to paddle around an obstacle using only their hands.
Guide Leader Shelagh Walsh said it was a huge turnout, with 21 of their total 31 girl guides turning up to do canoeing.
“A huge thank you to Dillon for running the program as the girls had an absolute ball. A big thank you to Tess for providing lunch for everyone,” she said.
Another canoeing day is being planned for the Girl Guides later in the year which the girls are looking forward to.
