Helicopters inspecting powerlines

Recent stories

Land dwellers may have asked what the hovering helicopters were doing flying above Maldon last Monday, 20 February.

Powercor has been conducting inspections for its vegetation and tree-cutting program.

This will continue over the next two months as the helicopters fly around Central Victoria inspecting powerlines.

The helicopters are fitted with advanced Light Detection and Ranging technology (LiDAR) which accurately identifies the distances of trees to powerlines.

To keep the community safe, experienced teams will go in and cut vegetation back once the information has been received.

There are more than 300 people managing the vegetation.

Powercor flights will use the Maryborough Aerodrome for landing and refuelling and are expected to do this several times over a five-week period.

The work is necessary in order to prevent power outages and fires.
