Plans for Allora’s two museums

Recent stories

A proposed development application was submitted to the Southern Downs Regional Council late last year by the Allora & District Historical Society, for the relocation of two buildings on the original museum site on Drayton Street to the site of the old Shire Hall on Warwick Street Allora. Submissions closed on 20th February with none received relating to this application.

The application seeks a Community Change of Use, being an extension to the existing Allora Museum Precinct at 53 Warwick Street, relocation of two buildings and preliminary approval for building works.

The museum at 27 Drayton Street is located in the School of Arts Building which was originally Allora’s first Court House, built in 1866 in Raff Street.

When the new Court House was built in 1884, the School of Arts purchased the building.

The move to 53 Warwick Street will give Allora one large Museum Precinct packed with history and memorabilia from this area.

The next big step for the Allora & District Historical Society is to obtain a grant for the cost of relocating the buildings from Drayton Street to Warwick Street.
