Minister briefed on local environmental concerns

Environment and Climate Action Minister Reece Whitby attended a series of meetings in Denmark last month.

With Warren Blackwood MLA Jane Kelsbie, Mr Whitby visited local peat swamps, met with Green Skills Inc., and with several stakeholders to discuss the latest forest management plan.

Professor Stephen Hopper and Dr Joanna Young met with the Mr Whitby and Ms Kelsbie at a peat swamp, to discuss the impacts of fire on these ecologically significant areas.

Green Skills Inc. hosted the two politicians at their office, and discussed the important projects in the sustainability, environmental and conservation space through a collaboration with Murdoch University and the Albany and Denmark Green Skills teams.

To round out the visit, Ms Kelsbie and Mr Whitby hosted a two-way discussion on the draft Forest Management Plan at the Shire of Denmark office, with discussions on fire mitigation, ecological thinning, carbon sequestration and farm plantations taking place.
